Dreams Come True

My life after meeting, courting, and marrying Ben felt like a fairy-tale. As a little girl, I had always dreamed of being a stay-at-home wife and mom, just like my mother. But the older I got, and the more disappointing relationships I experienced, the lower my expectations fell. By the time I met Ben, I was almost afraid to believe or hope that such mature and godly men actually existed.

Ben proved me wrong, and he continues to prove me wrong today. In him, the Lord has provided a husband for me who far exceeded my expectations. If I had had my way, I would’ve already settled and married a far inferior man. Instead, God graciously kept me waiting for a man who was truly worth the wait, blessing me far beyond what I ever dared to dream.

Just one month after our wedding, I began to have some unusual symptoms I had never really felt before. I had a hunch, and after chatting with a couple married gal friends, I explained my symptoms to Ben and informed him that I believed a pregnancy test was in order.

Excited, we drove to the local pharmacy on Friday evening, February 7, 2014, to pick up a test. Once home, Ben and I carefully read the instructions, then stood together next to the bathroom sink, waiting for the results to show.

My heart and mind raced. For two whole minutes, it felt like the world had stopped, as though the future of the universe itself hung in the balance. Afterward, I held my breath as we carefully peered into the little results window. There, on the tiny screen, you could barely make out the faint lines of a plus sign. It was positive!

Neither one of us could quite believe it. We wondered out loud if we could really rely on a couple barely visible marks to tell us we were having a baby. Is this really how couples find out they are expecting? By peeing on a stick?

After a couple Google searches and further inquiries made to my married gal friends, I was assured that any positive result – however faint – is a positive result. Suddenly, I was a mom. A tiny human being was growing inside of me!

Ben, however, wasn’t fully convinced. We agreed to wait a couple more days and take another test first thing in the morning, as the instructions recommended. The second test only confirmed our initial results.

We were having a baby, and it seemed like all of my dreams were coming true!
